My childhood curiosity about Brazil, sparked by vibrant textbook images of Rio de Janeiro and the majestic Amazon rainforest, grew into a deep-seated fascination. Little did I know that one day, this distant land would become a significant chapter in my life.
In July 2022, with a blend of excitement and nostalgia, I bid farewell to my family and my young son, embarking on a journey to Brazil. This was more than a trip; it was the realization of a lifelong dream, an opportunity to fulfill my potential, and a testament to my commitment as an international service engineer.
Upon arrival in Brazil, the reality differed vastly from my expectations. The role of a service engineer was multifaceted and demanding, extending beyond mere excavator repairs. It encompassed managing parts inventories for dealers, providing technical support, and even participating in local excavator performance evaluations. Each day brimmed with new challenges and rich learning experiences.
A pivotal moment in my journey was a critical service call from China Railway 10th Bureau. It was a Friday afternoon in Rio, and I had just finished a loader repair. As I prepared for the weekend, an urgent request arrived: their SY750H excavator was underperforming, impacting the productivity of over 20 mining trucks. Determined to resolve the issue swiftly, I took the next flight to the site. Working into the night, flashlight in hand, I diagnosed a faulty injector in the engine. The urgency of the situation demanded immediate action. I coordinated with our parts team for a rapid replacement. Within a single day, the excavator was back up and running, a testament to the efficiency and dedication that won the client’s gratitude and commendation.
